This How-To is for individuals who have already completed their [License to Carry](/research/legislation/h-b-no-1234 "H.B. No. 1234") course and shooting proficiency, and have received their [LTC-100](/learn-about-ltc/applying-for-texas-license-to-carry/gathering-necessary-documents "Gathering Necessary Documents") or LTC-101 document. If you have't done these things already, you're skipping too far ahead. When you have the LTC-100 (in person) or LTC-101 (online) from your LTC instructor, at that point you're ready for these steps.

The [application](/learn-about-ltc/license-to-carry-basics/step-by-step "License to Carry - Step-by-Step") itself shouldn't take much time, assuming you have all of your required documents. Time delays may occur if there is a problem with your paperwork, your [background check](/concealed-carry-in-texas/buying-a-gun-online "Buying a Gun Online"), or your [fingerprinting](/concealed-carry-in-texas/the-evolution-of-concealed-carry-terminology-in-texas "The Evolution of Concealed Carry Terminology in Texas"). If you have any [criminal record](/learn-about-ltc/applying-for-texas-license-to-carry/state-and-fbi-background-checks-for-texas-license-to-carry "State and FBI Background Checks for Texas License to Carry"), you may be asked by RSD to submit additional paperwork ([court documents](/learn-about-ltc/applying-for-texas-license-to-carry/decoding-deferred-adjudication-navigating-the-path-to-texas-license-to-carry-eligibility "Decoding Deferred Adjudication: Navigating the Path to Texas License to Carry Eligibility"), for example). Don't get discouraged, the processing time by the state takes as long as it takes.
