Comparing 2020 Crime Statistics Between Texas LTC and Non-LTC Holders

Under the Penal Code §21.11, this crime involves sexual contact with a child under the age of 17. II. Crime Statistics Among Texas LTC Holders

According to the data, there were 8 total convictions of Indecency with a Child Sexual Contact among Texas LTC holders in 2020. This compares to 178 convictions among non-LTC holders, which resulted in 95.45% of convictions occurring among non-LTC holders and 4.55% among LTC holders.

III. Factors That May Contribute to the Difference in Crime Statistics Between Texas LTC and Non-LTC Holders

Background checks and eligibility requirements for obtaining an LTC may contribute to the lower rate of convictions among LTC holders. The training and education for LTC holders may also contribute to the lower rate. Out of a total of 186 convictions of this crime, only 8 convictions were linked to LTC holders, resulting in 95.45% of convictions occurring among non-LTC holders and 4.55% among LTC holders. Factors such as background checks and eligibility requirements for obtaining an LTC and the training and education for LTC holders may have contributed to the lower rate of convictions among LTC holders, as well as the perception of risk and responsibility associated with carrying a weapon. These findings suggest that LTC holders may be more likely to be law abiding citizens than non-LTC holders.
