Introduction

The purpose of this article is to compare crime statistics between Texas License to Carry (LTC) holders and non-LTC holders for Terroristic Threat Cause Fear of Imminent Safety for the year 2020. Terroristic Threat Cause Fear of Imminent Safety, or TERRORISTIC THREAT CAUSE FEAR OF IMMINENT SBI, is a felony offense in Texas that makes it illegal to threaten to commit an act of violence with the intent to cause fear of imminent safety. The importance of studying the relationship between LTC holders and crime statistics is that it can provide insight into the effectiveness of background checks, training, and education required for obtaining an LTC.

Crime Statistics Among Texas LTC Holders

Texas LTC holders were convicted of 2 counts of TERRORISTIC THREAT CAUSE FEAR OF IMMINENT SBI in 2020. This accounted for 0.3% of the 679 convictions for TERRORISTIC THREAT CAUSE FEAR OF IMMINENT SBI in 2020. Comparatively, non-LTC holders were convicted of 579 counts of TERRORISTIC THREAT CAUSE FEAR OF IMMINENT SBI that year, which accounted for 85.7% of the convictions.

The results showed that LTC holders only accounted for 0.3% of the convictions for TERRORISTIC THREAT CAUSE FEAR OF IMMINENT SBI, while non-LTC holders accounted for 85.7%. Several potential factors were identified that may contribute to the difference, including background checks and eligibility requirements, training and education, and perception of risk and responsibility among LTC holders. The findings of this article suggest that LTC holders are more likely to be law abiding citizens than non-LTC holders.
