Understanding which states have concealed carry reciprocity agreements with Texas is crucial to avoid legal issues while carrying a concealed firearm. Currently, there are 37 states that recognize the Texas CHL/LTC, including all of the states bordering Texas, and popular travel destinations such as Florida, Colorado, and Nevada. We have created an interactive LTC reciprocity map, showing states that accept the Texas LTC, and which states LTC are accepted by Texas.

##### Texas Concealed Carry Law

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) administers the Handgun Licensing Program under the authority of the [Texas Government Code Chapter 411, Subchapter H](https://statutes.capitol.texas.gov/Docs/GV/htm/GV.411.htm). DPS licenses individuals to carry handguns within Texas, evaluates the eligibility of applicants through criminal history background checks, and monitors those currently licensed to ensure their continued eligibility. DPS also trains and certifies License To Carry (LTC) instructors who teach the required course to applicants.

Beginning September 1, 2021, [House Bill 1927](https://capitol.texas.gov/tlodocs/87R/billtext/pdf/HB01927F.pdf#navpanes=0) made it legal in Texas for most people 21 or over to carry a handgun in a holster without a permit both openly and/or concealed. This is often referred to as "Constitutional Carry", but is also called by the name "Permitless Carry". It does not repeal the License to Carry Program (LTC). DPS is still required to process applications, conduct background checks, and produce a license for those who satisfy the requirements.
