regarding safe firearm storage to school districts and | ||
open-enrollment charter schools for distribution to the parents or | ||
legal custodians of students. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter G, Chapter 37, Education Code, is | ||
amended by adding Section 37.221 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 37.221. SAFE FIREARM STORAGE INFORMATION. (a) The | ||
Texas Department of Public Safety and the center shall provide to | ||
all school districts and open-enrollment charter schools | ||
information and resources about safe firearm storage to be | ||
distributed through the district or school to the parents or legal | ||
custodians of students. | ||
(b) The information and resources described by subdivision | ||
(a) shall include information about Texas Penal Code Section 46.13 | ||
and steps parents and legal custodians can take to prevent children | ||
from accessing a firearm. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
