| relating to the provision of information regarding suicide | ||
| prevention and certain state laws applicable to handgun license | ||
| holders. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 411, Government Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 411.02098 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 411.02098. SUICIDE PREVENTION INFORMATION. (a) The | ||
| department shall post on the department's Internet website and make | ||
| available to the public and to firearm retailers a printable | ||
| brochure, developed in cooperation with the Health and Human | ||
| Services Commission, that includes the following suicide | ||
| prevention information: | ||
| (1) information regarding: | ||
| (A) the warning signs that a person is at risk of | ||
| suicide; | ||
| (B) suicide prevention; and | ||
| (C) state agencies that provide mental health and | ||
| suicide prevention services; and | ||
| (2) the phone number for the National Suicide | ||
| Prevention Lifeline. | ||
| (b) Not later than October 1 of each year, the department | ||
| shall update the brochure required by Subsection (a). | ||
| (c) The department shall provide the brochure required by | ||
| Subsection (a) by mail or e-mail to each new applicant for a license | ||
| to carry a handgun issued under Subchapter H. | ||
| SECTION 2. Section 411.185(d), Government Code, is amended | ||
| to read as follows: | ||
| (d) Not later than the 60th day before the expiration date | ||
| of the license, the department shall mail or e-mail to each license | ||
| holder a written notice of the expiration of the license, a renewal | ||
| application form, [ |

| Subsection (c), and the brochure described by Section 411.02098. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. | ||
